Avoiding Premolar Extractions with TAD-assisted Expansion Protocol

Jan 21, 2021 7:30pm ‐ Jan 21, 2021 8:45pm

Identification: web210121

Credits: None available.

Dr. Marianna Evans (1.25 CE) for Avoiding premolar extractions with TAD-assisted expansion protocol

Conventional tooth-supported palatal expanders can at times produce unfavorable periodontal outcomes. The introduction of the temporary skeletal anchorage into rapid maxillary expansion appliances eliminates orthopedic forces applied directly to the teeth. In doing so, orthodontists can avoid adverse periodontal effects, achieve required skeletal maxillary expansion in non-growing patients without surgery and control skeletal and dental post-expansion movements in three dimensions.

Premolar extractions are often necessary in the situations of severe crowding with objectives to minimize periodontal attachment loss and optimize esthetics. This webinar will discuss TAD-assisted expansion protocol to allow periodontally acceptable non-extraction therapy.

Learning Objectives:

  • To discuss the maxillary and mandibular crowding - skeletal perspective.
  • To discuss periodontal perspective of addressing crowding with maxillary skeletal expansion versus premolar extraction therapy
  • To review extreme crowded cases treated with TAD-assisted expansion protocol - paradigm shift in orthodontics.

A Digital Approach to Orthognathic Surgery

Identification: web210223

Credits: None available.

Dr. Neil Warshawsky (1.25 CE) discusses how not everything learned during the pandemic was bad. Listen and learn how technology has helped us to refine our digital workflow for orthognathic cases while keeping our patients safer than ever before.

Learning objectives:

This program will look at what it takes to go digital, and we will discuss the pros and cons of being paperless. Our discussion will compare equipment and services, listing out the pros as well as the cons of these items. By the end of the program, the participant will be able to do a fair assessment of their own practice to see what is practical to immediately add, vs waiting a few years to purchase.
  • Understand what key milestones are required to safely approve your patient for orthognathic surgery. Recording keeping will be discussed, and we will specifically look at conebeam and 3D printing to help understand how they help to treat cases more efficient and accurately.
  • A variety of orthognathic cases will be demonstrated to show that it does not matter what appliance system you use in your office. Presurgical objectives are universal regardless of your treatment philosophy.
