Many orthodontists assume since they know how to move teeth with braces that they can excel in moving teeth with aligners using the same mechanics and paradigms learned for wires and brackets. With the advent of easy access to 3D imaging over the past decade, our ability to diagnose and treatment plan has forever changed for those who have embraced it. Although 2D records may allow an orthodontist to provide treatment, 3D records allow more sophisticated treatment planning, and more importantly allow us to readily evaluate treatment responses and treatment results in all planes of space.

The direct-to-consumer aligner business is booming. In this 30-minute session, orthodontist Ryan Hungate, DDS, draws upon his experience creating customer workflows for Apple Inc. to outline four ways orthodontists can combat this new consumer trend and return patients to the orthodontic practice.
