The hackers appear to be winning. They are deliberately targeting orthodontic practices like yours. In the past 24 months there have been some large-scale cyber-attacks specifically targeting healthcare providers. In one instance, over 400 dental practices got hacked and ransomwared over the same weekend. The hackers know about HIPAA and are stealing bits of your patient data and threatening to auction them off on public websites since they know this would create an even more massive HIPAA breach for you – thus increasing the pressure for you to pay the ransom. In a twisted sense – brilliant.

You MUST be taking steps to better protect yourself and your practice. What was good 3 years ago is insufficient now. During this session, Steve McEvoy will be showing you some basic things you can start doing right now to help stop the hackers.

The discussion will include:

  • How to change from a passive defense to an active defense
  • The most common ways ransomware gets started and how to avoid them
  • A great password manager for the practice (and yourself)
  • How to make a great password that’s easy to remember
  •  … and more.

He promises to limit the Geek speak and talk about issues in a way we can all understand. Bring your own questions and concerns to share with the audience.

Learning Objectives:

  • Implement a secure password manager at the practice.
  • Improve your Internet Security at the office using a UTM appliance.
  • Avoid common risks hackers exploit.
