This lecture will aim to present how important proper tongue function is to a stable orthodontic result and provide learning of how to screen for functional disorders of the tongue. Additionally, the lecture will address interdisciplinary care to create a common goal for the patient including when to refer to myofunctional therapy and why.

  • Understand how the tongue is a critical component to biomechanics of orthodontic treatment.
  • Identify professionals that can be included in your team approach to orthodontic treatment.
  • Evaluate for possible tongue related concerns and relapse issues.
