‐ May 24, 2022 7:30am

Credits: None available.

When skeletal discrepancy exceeds the limits of dental compensation, orthognathic surgery may be the ideal indication. However, an increasing number of adult patients demand the use of aligners as a treatment alternative, and orthodontists and surgeons are facing difficulties to adapt to this variation. A new protocol for treatment planning, fixation technique, and clinical steps is necessary. The aim of this presentation will be to show the sequence of treatment clinical procedures to obtain optimal results. The level of evidence will be evaluated examining the available literature.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the clinical steps for incorporating aligners in the orthognathic treatment.
  • Consider the advantages and disadvantages of using aligners during surgical orthodontic treatment.
  • Learn the level of certainty of this clinical approach considering the available literature.
