Description

Long-term Follow-up of Orthodontic Treatment of Patients With a Compromised Periodontium

This lecture will first establish a protocol for treating a patient with a history of periodontal disease, and will then evaluate if  the orthodontic correction and periodontium can be maintained long-term. Finally, it will present an improved method of permanent retention for patients with advanced bone loss.

Learning Objectives:

  • Formulate a protocol that the orthodontist and the peroodontist can use in treating a patient with a compromised periodontium
  • Design an orthodontic treatment plan that is realistic and achievable for the patient with a compromised periodontium

How to Treat Open Bite or Upper Anterior Protrusion Cases with Ankylosed Teeth

There are several surgical treatment protocols to move an ankylosed tooth, such as single tooth osteotomy, surgical luxation, corticotomy and distraction osteogenesis. Recently, distraction osteogenesis using distraction devices has become one of the most predictable treatment methods for ankylosed teeth. This presentation will discuss these treatment protocols and their outcomes and effects. Several specific cases will be presented with their step-by-step procedures.

Learning Objectives:

  • Relate the methods used to treat open bite cases with ankylosed incisor
  • Relate the methods used to treat mouth protrusion cases with ankylosed incisor or canine
