Understanding Degrees of Difficulty In Orthodontic Cases
What makes one orthodontic case more difficult than another? We have all seen a case that looks terrible with crooked teeth that finishes ahead of schedule while another case that looks "easy" runs months longer than planned. In his fast paced, well-illustrated lecture, Dr. McDonald will show some of the factors that make orthodontists groan inwardly when they walk in the door. Understanding these factors will help the entire team understand difficult cases so they communicate better both with the patient and with each other in getting these cases finished in a way that benefits the patients and the practice.
Learning Objectives:
Recognize why a case is difficult due to DENTAL reasons versus a case that is difficult due to SKELETAL reasons
Describe how growth can turn an "easy" case into one that is very difficult to finish
Describe how clenching, grinding, and even OTC medications can drastically affect tooth movement
