An orthodontic practice is a very dynamic environment. As practices grow and mature, teams add new members, associates or partners, and, inevitably, a doctor may retire. Decisions are being made that affect all aspects of the practice. Time and effort must be put into clarifying the practice vision, monitoring the financial plan for growth and maintaining the business systems of operation. As orthodontic staff/team members, we validate the practice vision, maintain data and information for the financial plan, and effectively implement the systems of operation. Whether we think of ourselves as merely on a staff roster or as an integral part of the orthodontic staff team, we help create the formula for success the living infrastructure that supports the practice systems and completes the patient-care loop. At every level of practice growth and development, we have a new opportunity to play a critical role in taking the practice vision to its high-definition format. This presentation will examine: staff and vision, the clarity of purpose; the engagement paradigm beyond training techniques; the psychology of change, how teams adapt; and coaching, a work in progress.
