Description

A smile contributes to social success! Like their healthy peers, people with medical, physical and psychological special needs seek orthodontic treatment to improve appearance, oral health, function and/or self esteem. This lecture distills 30 years of clinical experiences, successes, and disappointments into a practical orthodontic approach toward potential child and adolescent patients with special health care needs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe types of special health care needs.
  • Outline a stepwise approach to orthodontics for patients with special needs.
  • Identify strategies to use in the orthodontic office to promote patient coping and cooperation.
