2019 Annual Session Conference

Airway Considerations in Treatment Planning: The Use of Counterclockwise Rotations in Class II and High Angle Class III Patients

May 6, 2019 8:35am ‐ May 6, 2019 9:05am

Description

It is clear that the airway is consistently improved with forward movement of the mandible. Counterclockwise (CCW) rotational movements can be utilized to not only further enhance the final chin position and thus the airway. Class III patients pose a dilemma in that posterior mandibular movements tend to collapse the airway. High angle Class III patients are an ideal group to utilize CCW rotations to mitigate airway effects and also improve facial form while correcting the skeletal malocclusion.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the concepts of counterclockwise rotational movements.
  • Identify which patients woulld benefit from this alternative treatment planning.
  • Appreciate how certain rotational movements will enhance or mitigate the effects on the airway.
