Effective Management of Transverse Problems in the Growing Patient: Evidence-based Approach

This lecture will illustrate evidence-based guidelines for rapid maxillary expansion (RME) in the growing patient. Indications, treatment timing, and stability of RME will be analyzed on the basis of outcomes of short- and long-term clinical studies performed both in 2-D and 3-D.

  • Effectively manage RME in order to avoid potential adverse effects


Non-compliant Transverse and Torque Control for the Posterior and Anterior Occlusal Planes

The correction of posterior buccal or lingual cross bite, transverse control of the intermolar width and torque, or upper and lower midline discrepancy due to the occlusal cant is a challenge in orthodontics. Temporary anchorage devices and intermaxillary elastics are the most common treatment options. This presentation will address on the non-compliant approaches for the correction of these problems by using reciprocal orthodontic mechanics without unwanted effects. The appliances include a TMA transpalatal arch and lingual holding arch for the correction of posterior buccal-lingual cross bite and intermolar width, a NiTi archwire for the control of molar torque, and a TMA archwire for the correction of occlusal cant. The alveolar bone reactions also will be addressed as well.
