Oral habits such as nail biting, gingival picking, and digit sucking contribute to poor oral health and can adversely affect orthodontic outcomes. This presentation focusing on common oral habits will include: habit recognition, triage of habit severity and significance, approach to a patient who may have shame attached to the habit, and treatment modalities ranging from behavioral interventions to oral appliances.
