2019 Annual Session Conference

The Biology of Accelerated Tooth Movement

May 7, 2019 9:45am ‐ May 7, 2019 10:15am

Description

The efficacy and biology of accelerated orthodontic tooth movement techniques remain unclear. In this lecture we will review the proposed and current evidence for the biology behind the various accelerated orthodontic techniques. Acceleration of tooth movement maybe achieved but at a price of increased alveolar bone loss.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the proposed biological mechanisms behind acceleration of tooth movement techniques.
  • Identify potential side effects of accelerated tooth movement techniques.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of accelerated tooth movement techniques.

Speaker(s):

  • Sunil Wadhwa, DDS, CertOrtho, PhD, Columbia University College of Dental Medicine
