Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) is a heterogenous diagnostic descriptor potentially involving several different biological systems. This lecture will review what is known about the genetic factors that may predispose or exacerbate the condition, especially in chronic TMD, and explore if the findings point to potential targets for therapeutic intervention.
Learning Objectives:
Define different types of TMD.
Describe some of the different biological systems affected in TMD.
Evaluate the siognificance of reports on genetic factors in TMD.
