Adults present with decreased transverse widths without crossbite but with incisor crowding and decreased anterior arch contour. We have defined this malocclusion "Bimaxillary Transverse Constriction". Can correction by nonsurgical expansion be achieved without causing negative periodontal consequences? Data on 31 adult patients as well as clinical case presentations will illustrate the success of nonsurgical expansion treatment.
Learning Objectives:
Define patients with "Bimaxillary Transverse Constriction Malocclusion".
Evaluate the use of nonsurgical expansion appliances and how to avoid complications in adult patients.
Evaluate which patients may benefit from surgical expansion.
