Optimal loads for the fastest and safest tooth movement were investigated 1) to test for effects of magnitude of loads and growth status and 2) to compare results with and without invasive methods as reported in the literature. Results from randomized split-mouth studies of 92 maxillary canines showed optimal applied loads were 26 -52 kPa and overall speeds were 1.5-times faster in growing compared to non-growing subjects. These methods demonstrated speeds of tooth movement that were similar to or faster than reported speeds when invasive methods were used.
Define optimal loads for tooth translaton.
Recognize possible speeds of tooth movement in growing versus non-growing patients.
Evaluate speeds of tooth movement reported in the literature.
