Solving the Catch-22 of the Agenesis 12-22

This is a prospective clinical study aiming to evaluate canine substitution supported by temporary anchorage device (TAD) as a viable treatment for patients with maxillary lateral incisor agenesis (MLIA) and skeletal Class I or Class III. Conventionally, restorative replacement used to be the gold standard to treat those cases; not anymore! The importance of the interdisciplinary teamwork will be highlighted with this novel treatment protocol and through clinical cases.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the traditional dilemma of canine substitution in class I and class III patients.
  • Perform Canine substitution in patients with Class I or Class III by using TADs.
  • Propose a novel treatment protocol showing improvements in: cephalometric measurements, occlusion assessment, soft tissue profile and smile esthetics.
