Michael G. Durbin DDS, MS

Dr. Michael G. Durbin, an orthodontist with offices in Des Plaines and Long Grove, Illinois, represents the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists (MSO) on the Board of Trustees of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). The MSO is one of eight constituent organizations of the AAO and serves orthodontists practicing in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and the Canadian province of Manitoba.

Dr. Durbin is a 1984 graduate of Loyola University Chicago, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with honors. He completed his dental education and orthodontic residency at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry, earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with honors in 1988, and a Master’s of Science in Orthodontics and Certificate in Orthodontics in 1990. He opened his orthodontic practice in 1990, and has been a partner in Associated Dental Specialists of Long Grove since 1998.

His professional memberships include the AAO, the MSO and the Illinois Society of Orthodontists (ISO), the American Dental Association (ADA), the Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS), and the Chicago Dental Society. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International.

Dr. Durbin has a long history of service in organized orthodontics and dentistry at the local, state, regional and national levels. For the AAO, Dr. Durbin has served in the House of Delegates, on the Council on Orthodontic Healthcare, including two years as chair, and on task forces and committees. He is the president of the AAO’s Donated Orthodontic Services Program, which provides pro bono orthodontic treatment to low income children across the country who lack insurance coverage or who do not qualify for other assistance in their states of residence. He is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society, and the Odontographic Society of Chicago, the largest honorary dental society in the country.

A past president of the ISO, Dr. Durbin is also active with the ADA. His volunteer roles have included the ADA Council on Membership, including a year as chair, and the ADA House of Delegates.

His volunteer spirit carries into his community. Dr. Durbin is active in the Des Plaines Lions Club, and St. Alphonsus Parish. He is a former Cub Scout Cubmaster and assistant coach for Prospect Heights Youth Baseball.

Dr. Durbin is the recipient of the ADA's 2015 President's Award and the ISDS’ 2014 President’s Award in recognition of his special contributions to dentistry and the dental profession.

Dr. Durbin joined the AAO Board of Trustees in 2017.
