Dr. Evelyn Attia MD

Professor of Psychiatry, Columbia University Irving Medical Center

Evelyn Attia, MD is a Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine. She is the Director of the Center for Eating Disorders at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and The New York State Psychiatric Institute.

Dr. Attia received her A.B. from Princeton University and her M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. She has been dedicated to furthering the understanding and treatment of anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders for over 30 years. Since 1999, she has received uninterrupted funding for her research from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

Dr. Attia has received a Young Investigator Award from The National Alliance for Research in Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD), a Pfizer/Society for Women’s Health Research Faculty Development Award in Women’s Health, and a Career Development Award from NIMH. Dr. Attia was a member of the eating disorders work-group for DSM-5 and a member of the American Psychiatric Association’s Writing Group for the recently released Practice Guidelines for Eating Disorders. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the National Eating Disorders Association for nine years and now co-leads NEDA’s Research Advisory Council. She is a member of The Eating Disorders Research Society, an elected Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
