Dr. Jeryl D. English DDS, MS

Since 2001 Jeryl D. English, DDS, MS, has served as Chair and Program Director of the Department of Orthodontics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry (UTSD), where he holds an appointment at the rank of Professor with Tenure. Dr. English earned his dental degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) and received his orthodontic specialty certificate and a Master of Science degree in oral biology from UMKC. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) and served as ABO President from 2010 – 2011. Dr. English also serves as an Ad Hoc reviewer for The Angle Orthodontist and The American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. He has published over 146 refereed articles, 159 abstracts, 11 book chapters and an orthodontic textbook published by Elsevier entitled “Mosby’s Orthodontic Review.” Among numerous honors and awards, Dr. English has been recognized with the Yellen-Schoverling Award from The University of Texas Orthodontic Alumni Association, Orthodontic Alumnus of the Year Award from UMKC, the inaugural Dianne and Fred Garret endowed chair in the Department of Orthodontics at UTSD, the UT Board of Regents Outstanding Teaching Award, the American Association of Orthodontics' Dale B. Wade Award of Excellence in Orthodontics, and most recently the Society of Educators Leadership Conference at the 2019 AAO was name the Jeryl D. English Educational Leaders Conference. Dr. English served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps from 1971 until his retirement in 1995. His numerous assignments included commander of dental units in Operation Desert Storm, commander of the Pacific Dental Service Support Area and DENTAC-Hawaii, commander of DENTAC-Berlin, and orthodontic consultant to the chief of the U.S. Army Dental Corps at the Pentagon. His military awards include 2 Legion of Merit Medals, a Bronze Star Medal, 3 Meritorious Service Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, and two Army Achievement Medals. Dr. English has a broad range of clinical interests in treating orthodontic patients, including surgical orthodontic interdisciplinary and functional treatment.
