Dr. Athanasios Athanasiou DDS, MSD, DrDent

Dr. Athanasios Athanasiou is the Dean and Professor of Orthodontics at the School of Dentistry, European University Cyprus. His Dental and PhD degrees were awarded by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, and the Orthodontic Specialization and Master by Temple University, USA. He served as President of the World Federation of Orthodontists, the European Federation of Orthodontics, and the Greek Orthodontic Society. He was Dean of Dentistry and Professor and Chair of Orthodontics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and at Mohammed Bin Rashid University, United Arab Emirates. He served as Program Coordinator at Aarhus University, Denmark. He has published more than 200 scientific articles and chapters, has made more than 470 scientific presentations in 49 countries, and has edited 6 textbooks. He has received many awards including the Edward Cherkas Memorial Award by Temple University, the Zendium Prize by Aarhus University, and the Louise Ada Jarabak Memorial Award by the American Association of Orthodontists. In 2022 the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Orthodontists launched the “Athanasios E. Athanasiou Best Orthodontic Master’s Thesis Award” and in 2025 the same organization presented him with "The William H. DeKock Distinguished Service Award". In 2024 the Greek Orthodontic Society launched for the European Postgraduate Students Orthodontic Society the “Athanasios E. Athanasiou Postgraduate Student Research Award".
