Dr. Dimitrios Michelogiannakis DDS, MS

Dr. Dimitrios Michelogiannakis serves as an Associate Professor and Program Director at the Department of Orthodontics, Eastman Institute for Oral Health (EIOH), University of Rochester, NY. He received his dental degree (DDS) from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, School of Dentistry in 2012. Afterwards, Dr. Michelogiannakis completed a 3-year specialty training program in Orthodontics and received a Master of Science degree in Dental Science (MS) in 2017 at EIOH. Dr. Michelogiannakis is also pursuing a PhD degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, School of Medicine. Dr. Michelogiannakis is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a fellow of the American College of Dentists, and a member of the prestigious Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists. He is the past-Chair of the Section on Orthodontics of the American Dental Education Association and the President-Elect of the Society of Educators of the American Association of Orthodontists. He also serves as an Orthodontic Site Visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Dr. Michelogiannakis has contributed more than 70 publications and two book chapters. He frequently lectures nationally and internationally and serves as a reviewer for multiple dental and orthodontic indexed journals. He has been awarded several grants including the Orthodontic Faculty Development Fellowship Award (OFDFA) by the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation (AAOF) in 2020 and 2022, the 2022-23 American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Full Time Faculty (FFT) Fellowship award, the 2024 Council of Sections (COS) Project Pool fund from the American Dental Education Association and the 2025 Align Research grant.
