Dr. Iacopo Cioffi DDS, PhD, Dip. Ortho, FRCD(C)

Dr. Iacopo Cioffi is an orthodontist, clinician scientist, and tenured Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto (UofT), where he co-directs the Centre for Multimodal Sensorimotor and Pain Research. His research program focuses on understanding mechanisms of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and developing TMD biomarkers. Since 2015, Dr. Cioffi has secured more than 3 million dollars in research grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Government of Ontario, the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation, the European Orthodontic Society, Align Technology, and UofT Dentistry. Dr. Cioffi is also actively involved in orthodontic and pain research and education. He coordinates the scientific methodology course and the Journal review seminars in the UofT graduate orthodontic program, and he is the director of the graduate course “The diagnosis and management of TMD” at UofT Dentistry. He also chairs the evaluation Committee of the University of Toronto Centre for The Study of Pain Interfaculty Pain Curriculum—an extensive interprofessional pain curriculum that involves more than a thousand UofT students each year across seven different health disciplines. Dr. Cioffi is a reviewer for several orthodontic, dental, pain, and neuroscience journals. He is s a member of the Editorial board of the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation (IF 3.558), Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research (IF 2.563), and Aligner Orthodontics, and an active member of the E.H. Angle Society of Orthodontists (East Chapter).
