Dr. Minnie Vishwanath is a tenured Associate Professor and the Graduate Program Director in the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. Additionally, she serves as a director representing the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists on the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO), a position she will hold until 2030. In 2029, Dr. Vishwanath will assume the role of president of the ABO, becoming only the second woman to serve on the board in its nearly 100-year history.
Dr. Vishwanath earned her dental and orthodontic degrees in India before relocating to the United States in 2012. She completed a one-year internship in orthodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCA), followed by a fellowship and a three-year residency program in orthodontics at the University of Connecticut (UConn Health). Dr. Vishwanath also holds a Membership in Orthodontics with the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
In her role as a full-time faculty member, Dr. Vishwanath divides her time between teaching, research, and clinical practice. Her primary research interests focus on the biomechanics of tooth movement and the management of impacted canines, areas in which she has conducted extensive in vivo and in vitro studies. Dr. Vishwanath has published numerous scientific articles, emphasizing translational research and its clinical applications. She also serves as a reviewer for several prestigious orthodontic journals.
