Since the development of the orthodontic miniscrew, there have been reports of mandibular distalization to correct Class III malocclusion. Temporary anchorage devices (TADs) are used to distalize or mesialize dentition. However, it is not always possible to distalize the mandibular dentition due to the anterior and posterior anatomical limits of the mandible. In this lecture, various Class III cases treated with camouflage correction using miniscrews will be presented along with some evidence-based literature, and risk factors for TAD failure.

Three learning objectives:

  • Discuss clinical applications and biomechanical considerations during mandibular distalization with TADs
  • Discuss risk factors for TAD failure
  • Discuss camouflage Class III treatment
