Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics
Decreasing treatment time would be a great benefit for both patients and clinicians. Accelerated osteogenic orthodontics is purported to accomplish this using physical injury to speed up the turnover rate of bone. This lecture will examine the evidence surrounding this claim. Clinical techniques will be discussed and patient cases shown.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the biologic basis of accelerated osteogenic orthodontics
Manage patients who undergo this treatment
Determine the considerations that may influence the decision to use this technique
Accelerated Tooth Movement by Vibratory Loading: Is it Safe and Comfortable for the Patient?
The results of a randomized controlled trial on the effect of vibratory stimulation on tooth movement will be discussed and related to the levels of evidence from published literature. Clinical ramifications of faster tooth movement will be presented, including possible reduction of treatment time, biomechanical considerations and selection of appliances. The questions will be addressed concerning the effect of vibration on root resorption as well as comfort, ease of use and other potential adverse affects.
Learning Objectives:
Evaluate the levels of evidence for the efficacy of techniques intended to produce accelerated tooth movement
Outline the clinical implications of vibratory stimulation of tooth movement by AcceleDent® from the reported controlled clinical trial
