Adjunctive Esthetic Surgery for the Adult Patient
The public is well aware from the current onslaught of advertising that the esthetic space is occupied by plastic surgeons, smile enhancement through tooth whitening, veneers, and implants. But in today’s world, thinking of the orthodontist as the person from whom to seek esthetic enhancement seems to be something you do for your kids. Recognition of the importance of the face has arrived at a much faster pace in orthodontics than the appreciation of what we do in other medical and dental specialties. But in many instances, the orthodontist is the place to start if we recognize the possibilities available to us in interdisciplinary care. In this presentation, Dr. Sarver will present the concept of the orthodontist being the “quarterback” of many esthetic treatment plans, and how to execute that vision.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the elements of the ideal face bin 3 dimensions
Relate the options available for improvement of facial presentation
Recognize the methods of communication vital to patient comprehension of their choices
Esthetic Periodontal Surgery for Adults
This presentation will discuss the following periodontal esthetic surgical procedures to enhance esthetics in the adult patient: esthetic crown lengthening, tissue grafting to treat recession, and edentulous ridge augmentation. Interdisciplinary coordination with other specialists will be elucidated.
Learning Objectives:
Evaluate the criteria for deciding on surgical correction
Determine what type of esthetic problems the orthodontist should refer
Analyze how predictable are the surgical procedures
