Clinical Periodontal Procedures of the PAOO Technique
This lecture will demonstrate the clinical periodontal procedures of Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics. While PAOO facilitates decreased orthodontic treatment time, the increase the alveolar ridge width as a result of this therapy will be emphasized. Modifications of the surgical protocol, including the use temporary anchorage devices, will be discussed. The combination of gingival augmentation and PAOO procedures will also be demonstrated.
Learning Objectives:
gain an understanding of the periodontal surgical techniques utilized in PAOO
recognize the clinical situations whereby gingival augmentation and PAOO procedures may be required
The Evidence in Localized Bone Injury to Accelerate Tooth Movement
Although significant interest has built around techniques to accelerate tooth movement, there still uncertainty on their cost effectiveness. Intentional localized bone injury is one of these techniques that have been more commonly advocated. A broad range of procedures have been described that vary on the level of surgical invasiveness.
Learning Objectives:
Distinguish the different types of localized bone injuries and their reported effectiveness
Analyze the findings of a current randomized clinical trial evaluating surgically facilitated orthodontics
