Dr. Marie Cornelis and Dr. Lucia Cevidanes present on Bone Anchored Maxillary Protraction: Where are We Now? In the last decade, growing patients with Class III malocclusion have been increasingly treated with bone-anchored maxillary protraction. Several protocols have been described, which can be divided into two categories: 1) intermaxillary elastics engaged on skeletal anchorage devices and on a facemask, with miniplates only in the maxilla and 2) class III elastics engaged between skeletal anchorage in both maxilla and mandible, without the use of a facemask. The lecture will detail the different protocols used, and focus on the evidence available, comparing the clinical outcomes obtained with bone anchored maxillary protraction, with and without facemask. New protocols using CAD/CAM technology will be introduced.

Learning objectives:

  • Be familiar with the different clinical protocols for Bone Anchored Maxillary Protraction.
  • Know the effects, side effects and limitations of Bone Anchored Maxillary Protraction according to the available evidence.
  • Be able to assess ideal treatment timing and appropriate indications.
