Cone beam computed tomography is a relatively new 3D imaging technology available to the orthodontic practice. This presentation is designed to provide an overview of CBCT for the orthodontic clinic. Covered topics include clinically relevant CBCT physics, appropriate scan protocols for the orthodontic patient, and radiation dose/risk.

  • Discuss clinically relevant CBCT physics as they relate to image quality.
  • Apply appropriate scan ordering, protocols, and acquisition.
  • Discuss the relevant risks of radiation dose from CBCT and other x-ray exams in dentistry.
