Creating a Failproof Orthodontic Partnership

Date
April 25, 2025

As future provider demographics shift, we anticipate orthodontic partnerships will be one of our industry's fastest-growing sectors. Many orthodontists believe most partnerships fail and are hesitant to consider entering into a partnership agreement. Successful partnerships don't just happen - they are created through proper planning, mutual respect between the partners, open communication, shared vision and goals, and documentation of the details early in the process. This presentation will focus on the logistical and financial details to consider when entering into an orthodontic partnership. Existing practice owners and younger doctors looking for equity opportunities will benefit from the presentation by understanding both doctors' perspectives, pitfalls to avoid, and basic partnership structures when considering long-term and short-term partnership opportunities.

Learning Objectives

  • Summarize current trends in the industry that are driving the growth of orthodontic partnerships for both practice owners and young orthodontists. The analyses will also help determine if a partnership is the best career path for the attendees.
  • Identify characteristics of successful partnerships versus unsuccessful partnerships based on our firm's first-hand experience.
  • Practice owners will understand if their practice is financially ready to enter into a partnership arrangement. Examples will be provided to illustrate compensation structures between the owners and how to determine if the plan is financially viable.
