Mandibular Distalization vs. Maxillary Protraction in Class III Correction with TADs (Part I: Mandibular Distalization with TADs)
Date
May 4, 2024
Temporary anchorage devices (TADs) are currently being used to distalize or mesialize dentition. Since the development of the orthodontic miniscrew, there have been reports of mandibular distalization to correct Class III malocclusion. However, it is not always possible to distalize the mandibular dentition due to the anterior and posterior anatomical limits of the mandible. In cases where mandibular distalization is not an optimal treatment option, we might have to consider maxillary protraction. In this lecture, various Class III cases using miniscrews will be presented along with some evidence-based literature.
Learning Objectives
Discuss clinical applications of mandibular distalization with TADs.
Discuss biomechanical considerations during mandibular distalization with TADs.
Discuss limitations of mandibular distalization with TADs.
