Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment: The State of the Evidence

The AAO recommends an orthodontic screening by age 7 and many orthodontists provide early treatment for young children. This presentation will review common problems often addressed with early orthodontic treatment and review the state of the evidence for starting correction in the mixed dentition.

- Identify common problems treated with early orthodontic treatment.
- Evaluate the level of evidence existing for treatment of common Phase 1 orthodontic problems.
- Apply the best available evidence to Phase 1 orthodontic treatment decision-making and patient education.
