The Aesthetic Problem of Multiagenesis of the Teeth in Adolescents and Possible Solutions

Multiple agenesis (oligodontia) is a very rare dental anomaly, with a prevalence of less than 1%. Nonetheless, its occurrence creates a serious problem for the patient, because finding a solution to numerous agenesis in the dentition is not just a matter of aesthetics but also of functionality. The most complicated phase in the treatment of such cases is to determine the ideal treatment plan, which in most patients must be interdisciplinary, with orthodontic treatment constituting only a small, albeit essential (or even indispensable), component of the total therapy. The main phase in the reconstruction of the teeth involves prosthetics or a combination of implants and prosthetics. It is very important to time the treatment correctly, in consideration of the patient’s age and the completion of their growth before the implantation on the one hand, and the social handicap agenesis poses for the patient on the other.

Using several examples, the authors demonstrate the diagnostics, treatment plan and therapy procedures for patients with multiple agenesis, and offer various solutions that may be adopted according to the specific features of the case.
