AS32BS35 - AAOIC Risk Management for the Orthodontic Team

This program, sponsored by the AAO Insurance Company (RRG), will discuss the development of malpractice claims from the activity performed by the orthodontic staff. From communication, to patient records, to performing clinical procedures, staff is involved with patients and treatment. Staff can cause and/or prevent malpractice claims against the orthodontist. Attend this program to learn about current claims and how to prevent them. Elizabeth Franklin, claims manager for AAOIC will summarize real malpractice claims that have been impacted by orthodontic staff. She will discuss staff behavior and practice activity that can minimize or preclude the development of a claim. There will be a Q&A session to discuss questions about the program material or any office problems.

  • Determine which staff practice activities frequently result in malpractice claims or complicate the defense of claims.
  • Learn how to effectively and thoroughly document orthodontic records for maximum defense of claims.
  • Learn to recognize and deal with difficult patients or parents.
