Contemporary Surgical Management of Progressive Dentofacial Deformities

The diagnosis and management of progressive dentofacial deformities is challenging for both orthodontists and surgeons due to the varied and complex etiology and dynamic clinical presentations. Although there are many conditions that can cause progressive changes in occlusion and esthetics in adult patients, most are related to some form of intra-articular, temporomandibular joint disease. Examples include conditions such as condylar hyperplasia and osteochondroma which usually present as progressive facial asymmetries, or condylar resorption processes which can present with a symmetric or asymmetric clinical picture. Predictable results following combined orthodontic-surgical treatment can only be achieved with a precise understanding of the specific diagnosis and familiarity with all available treatment options. This presentation gives an overview of contemporary surgical management of such patients and includes a discussion of concepts related to recent advances in treatment planning and surgical techniques.

Case Report: Unique Orthodontic and Orthognathic Surgical Complications and Management

This session will present unusual orthodontic and orthognathic surgical cases and how they were managed, successfully and unsuccessfully. The audience will gain knowledge in management of problem cases and different things to look when treating more complicated cases.
