From Good to Great with Effective Miniscrew Mechanics
This lecture will present how simple miniscrew biomechanics can improve the predictability of your treatment results and make your practice go from good to great. Results from clinical research using miniscrew implants will be presented focusing on the treatment of growing Class II open-bite patients. Also, new and simple alternatives for distal and mesial movement of dental segments will be shown in detail. In addition, the lecture will cover important parameters for choosing adequate implant sites for high success rates with miniscrews.
Learning Objectives:
Learn about a novel miniscrew implant approach to treat growing open-bite patients
Learn new methods for distal and mesial movement of dental segments
Learn how simple biomechanics can produce predictable results and improve miniscrew implant stability and success rate
Do's and Don'ts of Using Miniscrews: Lessons Learned from Animal and Clinical Studies
Will screw stability be affected when the screw touches the root during insertion? Is there any damage to the root when it hits the screw during orthodontic treatment? What is the consequence if chronic inflammation around the screws persists? Can and how will the damaged root be repaired? The questions raised were answered through our analysis on animal and clinical studies. The collective information may be useful to the clinicians when incorporating temporary anchorage devices into orthodontic biomechanics.
Learning Objectives:
What to do when the screw hits the root during insertion
What to do when the root hits the screw during orthodontic treatment
