Two-phase vs. One-phase Treatment: How do You Choose Which Way to Go?

The last decade or so has been filled with many controversies in orthodontics, not the least of which has been the debate concerning one- vs. two-phase treatment. This presentation will focus on the benefits and drawbacks of early orthodontic and orthopedic intervention in various types of malocclusion, focusing on which types of problems respond well early and which respond better if approached in the late mixed or early permanent dentition. An evidence-based approach will be taken in evaluating treatment efficacy and efficiency.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand appropriate treatment timing for different malocclusion types
  • Become familiar with the cervical vertebra maturation system
  • Understand evidenced based treatment timing in Class II and III treatment
