Localized Controlled Bone Injury to Enhance the Rate of Tooth Movement
Recently, interest has surged in orthodontic treatment adjuncts that may enhance the rate of tooth movement. Physical and pharmacological methods have been shown to modulate the speed of tooth movement both in clinical and basic research. Among the physical methods described is the localized bone injury superposed to traditional orthodontic tooth movement. This lecture will describe the different surgical methods, combined with different systems of force delivery, and the evidence behind their effectiveness.

Highlight the different surgical methods that have been described clinically as enhancing the rate of tooth movement
Provide an overview of the basic science and clinical evidence regarding corticotomies as rate of tooth movement enhancers
Describe the preliminary results of a randomized clinical trial evaluating the role of a minimal localized controlled bone injury in the rate of tooth alignment
