2021 Lifetime Achievement Award Lecture; Carriere 3 Treatment in Minimally-growing Patients: How Does It Work?

Date
June 26, 2021

The speaker will discuss the non-surgical management of Class III problems in late adolescent and adult patients. The Carriere 3 treatment protocol will be discussed in in detail, including the near fulltime use of intermaxillary Class III elastics. Data from the first published clinical study of this appliance system will be used to describe the dentoalveolar and skeletal changes produced by the Carriere 3 appliance followed by full fixed appliances. This treatment protocol broadens the approaches to Class III treatment that have not been available previously.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the components of the Carrier 3 appliance and how it is used clinically.
  • Know the dentoalveolar and skeletal effects of treatment produced by the Carriere 3 appliance.
  • Differentiate between those patients who are candidates for Carriere 3 treatment and those who are best treated by corrective jaw surgery or lower premolar extraction.
