Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based methods for three-dimensional (3D) assessments have become popular in Orthodontics in recent years. Several factors can influence the success of secondary alveolar bone grafts. AI-based models can help during surgical planning, minimize surgical complications, and benefit orthodontic treatment. A novel classification algorithm will be presented using 3D surface models and an interpretable artificial intelligence approach to evaluate alveolar bone defect severity. This innovative AI algorithm presented satisfactory accuracy in classifying the severity of alveolar bone defect morphology and is capable of graphically displaying the features considered important during the deep learning model's classification decisions.
Learning Objectives
Define the factors affecting the secondary alveolar bone graft success.
Recognize the performance of an automated 3D classification index for the severity of alveolar bone defects in patients with cleft lip and palate based on an interpretable AI algorithm.
Discuss the advantages of a clinical decision support system for planning the secondary alveolar bone graft in patients with cleft lip and palate.
