Invisible aligner therapy was released in 1997. After years' growth and development, the invisible aligners are getting more and more popular for treatment of simple cases like straightening teeth, closure of space, releasing of crowding, etc. However, some people find it difficult to treat some more complicated cases with Invisible aligners, like extraction cases, especially those involving skeletal problems. In the year of 2011, we brought invisible aligners into China, because in China we had a lot of extraction cases - more than 50% of cases were extraction cases. So, from then, we started our research on how to use invisible aligners to treat extraction cases, even with severe skeletal problems. In this presentation, I would like to present the cases to show us how to treat skeletal malocclusion with invisible aligners. The key points for the success of treating skeletal problems with invisible aligners would be 1) the invisible aligners are different from traditional braces, because it is hard to get a very good control of root parallelism and torque, so the important thing in using invisible aligners is to have a good control of buccal-lingual torque, and also the mesiodistal angulation of root. 2) For skeletal problems, we can use very light force to remodel alveolar bone with invisible aligners, and we can make the progress a little bit slow with the light force.
Learning Objectives:
Know how complicated malocclusion cases are treated with invisible aligners.
Use invisible aligners is to have a good control of buccal-lingual torque and the mesiodistal angulation of root.
