Open bite diagnosis and treatment planning is multifactorial. One modality of treatment does not fit all open bite malocclusions. Skeletal, dental and soft. tissue considerations play a leading role in mechanics plan and selection of appropriate treatment method. This presentation will describe five types of open bite malocclusions and biomechanics principles to select conventional, TADs and or aligners for treatment. Discussion will include appropriate sites for TAD placement for open bites.
Learning Objectives
Define different open bite malocclusions and how skeletal and soft tissues affect the treatment outcome.
Demonstrate optimal treatment outcomes based on biomechanics and evidence based studies for different open bite patients.
Describe aligner mechanics which cause closure of open bites and how can we improve the treatment outcomes.
