The "Little Things" in Successful Class II Treatment

Date
May 23, 2022

This presentation will describe guidelines leading to efficient and effective treatment of mild to severe Class II problems. Dr. McNamara will discuss the role of rapid maxillary expansion in the mixed and permanent dentitions as well as the concept of "spontaneous improvement" of Class II relationships following RME. Definitive treatment of more severe malrelationships involves the Carriere Motion 2 appliance, the stainless-steel crown Herbst appliance and occasionally the Pendex appliance.

The speaker also will consider the importance of proper bracket positioning, full activation of a transpalatal arch and use of heavy intermaxillary elastics in the treatment of mild to moderate Class II malocclusions. Finally, what is the role of functional jaw orthopedics in the 21st century?

Learning Objectives:

  • Comprehend the role of rapid maxillary expansion in Class II correction.
  • Perform as three-dimensional activation of a transpalatal arch.
  • Evaluate appliances the speaker uses for definitive Class II correction.
