Since the time of Edward Angle (125 years ago) the management of the Class II malocclusion has continued to evolve to the point where a patient could be managed with a variety of approaches, and end up with a satisfactory result. Even with what initially appear to be disparate choices such as moving the upper dentition back versus bringing the mandible forward, results can be obtained that are indistinguishable from themselves when the case is finished. Dr. Turley will discuss the use of various appliances for the correction of the Class II, the effects they impart on the dentition and jaws, and the effects of treatment timing on the final outcome.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize the common effects of various Class II appliances.
  • Identify differences in patients treated in one versus two phases.
  • Determine if certain appliances are more favorable, given the characteristics of a particular patient with a Class II malocclusion.
