2022 AAO Annual Session - Interpersonal Communication & Neuroergonomics to Increase Happiness & Performance

May 22, 2022 1:00pm ‐ May 22, 2022 1:30pm

Harmony in the workplace cannot be achieved simply by bringing together individuals, no matter how competent they are. It implies optimal communication within the team, in order to avoid throwing sand into the cogs of a well thought organization.

What does it mean for a company when an employee resigns or takes sick leave because of a bad atmosphere? Or to a lesser extent, when the workforce lacks motivation and comes in with a recurrent bad mood?

Interpersonal communication and emotion management are the two pillars of building better, healthier and more fulfilling relationships with and between every single one of your team members. Working in a stress free environment makes it much easier for anyone to perform, focus and even enjoy one’s day at work.

Learning Objectives:

  • Communicate more efficiently.
  • Evaluate the importance of being precise while emitting a message.
  • Control overreactions when receiving a message.

Jan 29, 2022 1:00pm ‐ Jan 29, 2022 2:30pm

What if you were told your whole life that your dreams are not possible? Dr. Corinne Devin was able to conquer three dreams (orthodontists, pageantry, naval officer) that she had been told were impossible based on her personal areas of weakness that required her to challenge herself to overcome them. She was able to forge a path that allowed her to tackle several difficult opportunities. From them, she learned how to be a feminine leader in a male-dominated environment. She navigated her career and learned tools that she could bring to each area of her life. Dr. Devin will discuss the hardships and struggles she encountered along the way and how she conquered them.

Learning Objectives:

  • Believe in yourself and not in what others tell you that you cannot do.
  • Feel empowered that there is nothing you cannot figure out.
  • Understand what life as a dentist in the Navy looks like.
