Dr. Sercan Akyalcin DDS, MS, PhD
Dr. Sercan Akyalcin, a globally recognized orthodontist, is the Head of Orthodontics at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM). Dr. Akyalcin completed his specialty training in orthodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, where he also worked as a faculty member and researcher. He has authored or co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed scientific publications and numerous book chapters, and he has co-edited orthodontic textbooks, including Mosby's Orthodontic Review. His research interests include 3D imaging, digital orthodontics, biomechanics, machine learning applications in orthodontics, and craniofacial growth and development. He is frequently invited to present at national and international orthodontic and dental conferences. Dr. Akyalcin serves on the editorial boards of several leading journals, including the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJO-DO), Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry (JERD), and The Angle Orthodontist. His scholarly work has earned multiple accolades, including the Edward H. Angle Research Prize 2019. In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Akyalcin holds several leadership positions in professional organizations. He is the President-Elect of the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists (NESO) and serves as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Eastern Chapter of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists (EHASO). Beyond academia, he advocates for evidence-based clinical practice and has been featured in various media outlets, including CBS News.
